My friend bought a turbo specialties turbo kit for his 97 Honda Civic d series. It's a D16Y7 I believe, the non vtec one. He bought the kit without the turbo specialties intercooler and various other options, so it was called the Turbo Specialties Superior Turbo Kit.
Anyway, we thought for the price, it can't be beat... around $1400, comes with everything, bolt on kit, etc. Wrong.
Turbo Specialties Turbo Manifold
This manifold is a piece of junk. Ok, it's cast iron, and it'll last a long time, but the last thing this manifold is made for is flow. We had to port it out to not only remove the imprefections, and also get some more flow, but we had to notch some of it just for the turbo to bolt up.
Once we bolted the tiny T25 turbo to the manifold, we went to put it on the head. Problem again. The manifold hit a part of the block, and wouldn't bolt on. We tried forever. We ended up having to shave almost half an inch off the turbo, the manifold, and the head to make it fit.
Turbo Specialties Intake Pipe
LOL, it's a piece of rubber tube! Junk!
Turbo Specialties Downpipe
I can't begin to explain how bad thing this is. Not only did it hit the oil pan at such an angle that we didn't know how in the world this was supposed to fit, but it was made from aluminum cans it looked like. We had to cut and reweld the downpipe, and by this point, we should have just made our own.
Turbo Specialties FMU
Don't bother installing this piece of crap. If you're broke, at least go with a SAFC, better than this FMU, which would blow your motor.
Final Review
If you want a base kit, I would get a base Greddy. This Turbo Specialties kit is made for those people who don't mind spending the weekend hacking up the kit to make it fit.
I would suggest a different kit. if you guys have any questions, holler.
